The brilliant parenting moments we have

OK - so most of our moments don't fall into the above category - H really took the prize today of a NOT so brilliant parenting moment

He had to take our French surrogate daughter (she lives with two families during her stay in MN) to her new home and I had to work today. Anyway - he had to pack her up and all the kids and take her. So... he empties out the car to do so (TAKING my emergency bag out - this is key later) It is a smaller yellow bag - not a big deal - seriously has EXTRA sweatshirts (you'll see why this is important in a minute) and other clothes for the kids, extra hats, mittens....

Anyway - he runs over a nail, decides he won't even make it back home to wait for me, so he takes the van to the tire shop. THEN proceeds to walk home with the kids - about 3/4 of a mile. Not a big deal, except it is winter in MN - still not too bad, right?

BUT H1 was in "dress up clothes" which consisted of a small no shoulder top and GET THIS, she was wearing a poncho as a skirt (could he not have made her change before taking her?) At least, she had on her winter coat. Both H2 and H3 did not have coats on!!!!!! NONE of them had boots on! H2 later said he was sooo cold. He didn't even have a t-shirt under his normal long sleeve like he does EVERY SINGLE DAY.

He could have stayed at the tire shop - called me on the cell phone, which I told him I would have on and with me in case something went wrong. Gone to Noodles or another store close by - waited for me - to get home (I said I would be home around 4) or AGAIN - called me on the cell phone. Or got a phone book and called the Y. I mean the kids can handle going out and getting a treat at a restaurant (granted H1 was NOT dressed for it) - but still... instead of walking home in the cold wet snow. Not his smartest parenting moment. I am driving home and I see H1 out on the street leading to our house - I was like - huh? What is she doing there? I pull into the driveway and see H2 and H3 - H3's nose was BRIGHT pink and her hands were sooo cold. So - this is not like the timing would have been awful - he knew what time I said I would be home.

Now H3 has been up half the night coughing! And she has woken up just screaming three times. UGH.

For what it's worth, MH isn't the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to high stress parenting moments.

omigoodness. I am sorry about that. I am really surprised that he would chance that given that he like, you know, lives there!
