Day 2 of Sonday System

We basically reviewed what she did last time. (The prereading levels) We spent a lot of time breaking apart words.

Say smile, now say it without the s...

We also went over the level one word list again. She is having a much easier time reading what she sees instead of just inferring. I can totally see what her teacher meant by the fact that because her vocabulary is so strong and she has a good grasp of the flow of a book - that she could "pretend" to actually read. Granted - this is a totally perfect prereading skill that all children should progress though; however, she is/was so good at it - her teacher thought she could actually read for a while.

I am listening to her look at a word and sound it out. I am so happy for her. She mastered today the level one reading list. A group of words that end in -at and -an. She was able to work out the differences in a mixed list. This was a really big leap for her. The last two times we looked at this list - she really was overwhelmed by it. By tonight she ran with the list (the part that she was reluctant to try before) to show H that she could do it. She is so proud of herself. This is the part that is great.

So much of what H is going through is mirror to MM, it's frightening but relieving at the same time.

have you looked at the Sonday system on line? Have you thought about having it at home over the summer. The sessions are so short that even active children like ours are OK to sit down and do them?
